Kara Elliott, LMHC
The reward and adjustment to life after having a child can be a beautiful and difficult one. If you are struggling with anything from fertility, to intrusive thoughts, to mom guilt, therapy can be a great support for you. I am trained as a specialist in perinatal mood disorders and hope to help mothers, fathers, and birthing people navigate pregnancy, early parenthood, birth trauma, and loss. I also have experience in exploring LGBTQIA+ identity, including starting the process of gender affirming care.
Professional Experience
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor I have experience helping people with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, and perinatal/postpartum concerns. I am interested in working with people to find ways in which they can improve and lead more meaningful lives.
I have been working as a therapist for over a decade in outpatient, crisis services, and residential care. I draw from multiple modalities to personalize each person’s experience. These modalities include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma focused CBT. I have worked with diverse populations in Boston, MA and the south coast of Massachusetts before moving back to Western New York 6 years ago. Since then I have been working for Horizon Health Services as an outpatient therapist exclusively. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from SUNY Potsdam and a Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University.
