Samantha Arcara, LCSW
Throughout life’s transitions, many people hold hopes and dreams close to their heart. Often so close, they become a part of your identity. However, when these plans don’t play out as you had hoped, often outside of our control – you are left with the aftermath. At one end of this spectrum, you might be frustrated or feel a stinging disappointment. At the other, devastating heartbreak or betrayal, even by your own body. Maybe you feel the grief and loss of what could have or should have been.
As a trauma therapist specializing in grief & loss, reproductive trauma & grief, medical trauma, PTSD and complex trauma, anxiety and depression, I understand how these experiences shift not just our sense of self, but our sense of the world around us.
If your journey has left you feeling stuck or maybe not even recognizing yourself, you are not alone. I offer a grounded space to rebuild trust in your body, emotions, and judgment. We will work to build a secure relationship that fosters curiosity and self-compassion through work centered around reconnecting with both your body and your inner self at a pace that meets you where you are.
It’s important to me to meet all the individuals I work with exactly where they are at. Whatever path your life has taken you on, I’m glad you found your way here.
Professional Experience
With over 8 years of experience as a trauma therapist working with adults and children, I integrate approaches including EMDR, somatic processing, DBT, parts work and techniques rooted in neuroscience. This allows us to work with your thoughts, emotions, and body to release what is stuck, improve your ability to regulate, and reduce stress responses.
In my work with children and parents, I adapt this approach, building upon my background in early childhood development and experiential play therapy. Our work together can help you to respond and connect with your children, and foster both you and your child’s regulatory capacity and resilience.
I hold a Masters degree in Social Work from the University at Buffalo, and have experience working with diverse populations in both outpatient community mental health and medical settings.
